Kyrsten Blair is a prominent member of Calgary’s Arts community. She has filled the roles of University Sessional professor, performer, movement educator, coach, choreographer, staging director, designer, producer, coordinator, and yoga studio owner. Having trained and performed across Canada, the USA, Cuba, and Indonesia, movement traditions rooted in Contemporary, Jazz, Improvisation, Traditional & Folkloric, and Musical Theatre are constant companions. Her classes welcome students of all ages and embrace newcomers, emerging artists, late bloomers, and seasoned professionals. Recent presenters of her work include the Canadian Indonesian Social Club, Fire Exit Theatre, Calgary Opera, One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and the DJD Dance Centre’s Creative Residency Program, The School of Creative and Performing Arts and the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary, Calgary Girls Choir, and Revv52. As a Dance Specialist, she works extensively in schools across southern Alberta, namely Western Canada High School, The Calgary Girls’ School, Sir Winston Churchill High School, St. Francis High School, Notre Dame Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School, and Father Lacombe High School. One of her favourite performance highlights happened in Spring 2019 when she travelled to New York City to perform in Total Vocal, conducted by Pitch Perfect’s Deke Sharon, at the legendary Carnegie Hall.
