Adult Dance FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Unsure About Something? We're here to help!

Q.

WHAAAAAT? AFRAID TO TAKE A DANCE CLASS?

A.

Humans move and dance by nature. Even if you can’t remember the last time you busted any kind of move, it can be pretty much guaranteed that as a child, you danced. It will serve you well to remember that at one time, even before skilled in walking let alone dancing, moving brought you joy.

Forget “natural” ability. Things like movement retention, strength, agility, flexibility… these skills get better with practice over time. Where better to practice than in a regular class? Try any of our Level 101 classes as a perfect start!

Q.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH LEVEL IS RIGHT FOR ME?

A.

  • Level 101: For absolute beginners who have never danced before.
  • Level 1: Basic introductory level for beginners and anyone with minimal experience in that style.
  • Level 2: Intermediate level for those who have a strong understanding of the basics and terminology.
  • Level 3: Advanced level only for experienced dancers with a strong knowledge base of the technique.
  • Open Level: Mixed level, normally between a level 1 & level 2, but depends on the overall experience of the students in the class.

If you are still not sure which level is the right one for you, we suggest you drop in to try the class. If you register for a class that is not the correct level please speak to your teacher and our Admin team. Sometimes it’s a guessing game but we are happy to let you try a couple until we find the perfect match!

Q.

Can I Watch a Class?

A.

Absolutely! If you are curious about what goes on in a particular class you are welcome to observe. Keep in mind that, especially in beginner classes, some students are not comfortable having observers in class.

Q.

What is the Age Range of Students in ADult Classes?

A.

Adult classes can include a wide range of ages, anywhere from 18 to seniors.

Q.

Where Do I Park?

A.

Parking is available anytime behind the studio and the neighbouring building on the east side of the studio. You can also park in the lot behind the building to the west of the studio after 5:00 pm on weekdays and anytime weekends. On-street parking is available along 12th Avenue and around the park. If you use the street please take care to observe posted permit only parking.

Q.

DO YOU OFFER DROP IN CLASSES?

A.

Yes, as long as there is room in class you can drop in. Stop at the office to pay the fee, sign in, and get your pass. Keep in mind, most of our classes are progressive, so depending on your experience and what point we are at in the session, you may find dropping in challenging. (Note: If you are looking at dropping in to an Aerial class call the office first as silks are limited.)

Q.

CAN I RESERVE A DROP IN IF I PHONE IN ADVANCE?

A.

Payment for drop-ins requires an office visit.

Q.

WHAT CAN I DO IF I MISS A CLASS?

A.

You can make up missed classes, as long as it’s within the same session, in any other class that is offered in our schedule that is not full and suits your level. You can also do it in advance if you know you will be missing. Stop at the office to sign in and get your pass. Transfer into future sessions or to other people is not permitted.

Q.

DO YOU HAVE A PASS CARD?

A.

Pass cards are only available for our Summer Session. During the rest of the year we do not offer pass cards for a couple of reasons. Most of our classes are progressive and so consistent attendance is recommended. In addition, we allow missed classes to be made up within the registered session.

Q.

IS IT WORTH REGISTERING IF I KNOW I WILL BE MISSING CLASSES?

A.

If you know you will be away for a specific number of consecutive classes we are happy to discuss options with you.

Q.

WHAT IF A CLASS I WANT TO REGISTER IN IS FULL?

A.

We can add you to the waiting list and will call you if an opening comes up. Meanwhile we suggest you broaden your horizons and try something new!

A.

For Adult Levels, discounts are given on multiple classes (3+) for individuals only.

A.

Class size varies depending on the classroom and the style of class. Generally, class numbers range up to 18 students.

Q.

DO I HAVE TO WEAR A BODYSUIT AND TIGHTS FOR BALLET?

A.

No! We want you to wear what makes you happy. You do want to be able to move without encumbrance however, so use common sense. Generally, workout wear that allows you to move and stretch easily and the corresponding dance shoes is appropriate. Click here for details on what we suggest you wear for each class.

Q.

WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE THE CLASS OR IT'S TOO DIFFICULT?

A.

We always suggest you address your concerns with your teacher first. You are welcome to try other levels or styles. When you decide what works best, we can switch you into that class. Please connect with one of our Admin team to facilitate.

Q.

What is a rehearsal class?

A.

Rehearsal classes appear on the schedule in Spring Session. They are open to students from Winter Session who committed to performing in the June show. Aside from regular class work the focus in rehearsal classes is on choreography in preparation for the show.

Q.

DO I HAVE TO BE IN THE year end SHOW?

A.

Absolutely not, although it is great fun! If your class is approached about it, we will only put the class into the show if there are enough people who want to participate. Those people who do not want to be a part of it can still sign up for a non-rehearsal class during Spring session (which is when show prep happens).
